IlluminArt Productions is extremely proud of the diversity, education and artistic talent that represents our Professional Touring Company. Our performances encourage self-examination of barriers and ultimately result in open communication that transfers to the audiences we reach. The Touring Company performs shows in repertory at elementary, intermediate, high schools and senior centers throughout Staten Island and beyond.

All performances are followed by an interactive talk-back between our performers and the audience. Our shows include:

Asking Alex

Explores questions about, making new friends, bullying, apologizing + more with help from our puppet friend.  

Asking Alex

Asking Alex is a series of short scenes following our puppet friend Alex on their daily adventures. Alex is purposely gender non-specific so all students can relate to their experiences. Follow Alex as they; start their first day at a new school, face bullies, deal with stress, and make new friends.

A fun way to introduce the basics of financial literacy to young people.

Sami The Squirrel and the Great Acorn Adventure!

Sami The Squirrel has young people joining in on Sami’s acorn adventure and learning the importance of saving, spending, sharing, investing, and the bank for a well-balanced financial stew.

What's Up?

What’s Up? is a series of scenes that revolve around naming and expressing emotions in a more clear, productive, and positive way. Through these scenes, students will be given the language to define their feelings and are encouraged to begin the process of self-examination.

Sparks vital conversations on immigrant myths and realities when a student encounters cultural food shaming.

Nation of Immigrants (4th-5th)

During “Unity Week” at a school, the vibrant interactive scene “A Nation of Immigrants” unfolds, igniting a dialogue when one student faces cultural food shaming, fueling discussions about immigrant myths and realities.

Uses a "birthday party" metaphor to examine immigration stereotypes, prompting students to reflect and address misinformation.

Nation of Immigrants

Nation of Immigrants explores assumptions and stereotypes related to the immigration experience by using the metaphor of a “birthday party” as a lens to delve into these intricate and nuanced subjects. Students have time to reflect on what they heard and, through guided questions, connect the narratives back to the subject of immigration and explore ways they can help combat misinformation.

Sometimes I Just Want Ice Cream by Randy Barrett Topper, an IlluminArt original play takes a look at grief and loss through the eyes of young people. Based on discussions with alumni of Camp Good Grief of Staten Island.

Sheds light on the dangers of prescription drugs and heroin.

Prescription for Addiction

Prescription for Addiction was written in collaboration with Susan E. Wagner High School seniors and examines the evolution and dangers of substance use and the consequences of underage drinking. We also address prescription drug use and abuse and how it can lead to addiction to more deadly substances while exploring how these issues can affect students’ school, home, and future life.

Rewriting the Story: Perceptions of Love is an original series of vignettes that explores the dynamics of relationships, highlighting the importance of recognizing healthy versus unhealthy behaviors. Through engaging stories, students learn about red flags, green flags, power dynamics, and the journey toward empowerment, helping them build a foundation for understanding what healthy relationships can look like. (Recommended 8th grade+)

“Legacy Talks, We Listen” is IlluminArt Productions’ original theatrical piece investigating the question “How can we honor one’s legacy?”  Each season the IlluminArt Touring Company explores this question through short scenes, monologues, dances, and songs they have created.
