Theatre for Young Audiences

IlluminArt’s mission of “empowerment through the arts” shines through in the amazing shows presented in our Theatre for Young Audience season. The season consists of a free Library Tour, a sit-down show at a particular theatre on Staten Island, and a Summer Touring Company. Both sit-down shows include one ASL-interpreted show and a specific day designated as “sensory-friendly.” The Library tour takes place during the fall and visits at least 4 locations in Staten Island, featuring a short play. The Summer Touring Company visits Catapult Learning campsites in all five boroughs, bringing joy to campers of all ages. These shows truly inspire and uplift those who attend, leaving a lasting impact on their lives.

Synopsis: Hephaestus, the neurodivergent son of Zeus and Hera, feels like an outcast for more reasons than one on Mount Olympus. The rest of his godly family constantly underestimates him, which worsens because he hasn’t found his godly gift yet. All Hephaestus dreams of is being a great Olympian like everyone else and creating something that will change the world. But when Eris, the goddess of discord, comes to visit, she wreaks havoc on the heavenly paradise. Hephaestus, wanting to help set things right, ends up aiding his family in repairing Olympus and fighting off Eris’ “chaos magic” by doing the unexpected: inventing the original simple machines (lever, wheel and axle, pulley, inclined plane, wedge, and screw).
